Facebook for business?

Is there value in Facebook for businesses? Or is it just a cool way to stay connected with friends? I have no answers but look forward to tuning in to a Webinar on Wed., June 25 at 3 p.m. EST over at The App Gap,
“Should Your Business Be Friends with Facebook?”

The Webinar is based on a research study led by Jenny Ambrozek that looked at the value of Facebook to six different types of business.

I’m hoping Jenny will cut through the social networking hype and hoopla and share some pragmatic advice about specific ways businesses can get value from Facebook — as well as Facebook limitations for business.

  1. The question ultimately begets the response, “It depends.” What type of business? What type of employee base? What type of culture? What types of interactions across the organization, with partners, with influencers, etc.? I used to think it was a toy, but as the lines between business and “leisure” time…and contacts…blur increasingly, I see it can be pretty powerful. And as a software company employee, I admire the speed with which they’ve built a bona fide software application platform of sorts. That said, I think the bigger question that will come up is, “Do I really want to be in the walled garden of Facebook,” or a more “open” garden?
